Avian Care and Rehabilitation

Experience the compassionate care and rehabilitation of injured birds. This project captures the heartwarming moments of birds receiving care, from bandaged wings to gentle interactions with caregivers. Much of our work is thankless, gruelling, round-the-clock care including the administration of vital meds like pain killers after traumatic auto, train or lorry collisions. Every species is different. Every protocol is different. Some birds will thrive on one medicine that will kill another species. Thirty-six years of immersive experience and constant consultations with world-class avian veterinarians has created an encyclopaedic knowledge of how to treat each species medicinally and psychologically. This knowledge is carefully catalogued and shared openly with all veterinary, zoological or rehabilitation professionals whom are interested in expanding their knowledge in the field of avian sciences. It should be said that there is precious little funding for avian medicine in terms of wildlife. Alas, this is the chief reason for the lack of spherical understanding of their successful treatment and rehabilitation, further intensifying the need for expansion of this underserved, underfunded field. Even avian vets have rarely seen 1/4 of the number of species we work with, and therefore the unique knowledge of each species' proclivities must be shared and preserved. Given the number of keystone and indicator species many of these birds represent, this is doubly troubling. Over two thirds of the avian species brought in through our doors or the doors of one of our satellite stations, returns fully recovered to the wild. Recovery usually takes 4 weeks to 6 months' rehabilitation to fully recover enough to resume a healthy life in the wild.
